Other World Computing (OWC) has announced Copy That for Mac, a utility app that makes it easy to offload and backup your photo and video content with automated features for quick and safe copying and duplication.

Copy That for Mac works in a three-step process. First, select the source (be it a camera, drive or memory card) where your media is, choose the destination(s) you want that media to be copied to and select any of the options you want enabled upon import. These options include verification options, the ability to rename the file and various report outputs to ensure every bit of your data gets copied verbatim from your source media.

‘ Copy That is built with industry standard checksum verification options including xxHash-64, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-2 256, SHA-2 512, as well as other safeguard features like source integrity verification, automatic name collision detection, and smart error detection that alerts to ensure your copied files are intact,’ says OWC. ‘In addition, the inclusion of MHL files ensures that files can be verified at any given time to make sure your data is safe, and your backups are reliable.’

You can also export reports as PDF, TXT or CSV files so you (or your client) knows exactly what was transferred, how it was transferred and where it was transferred. The data in these reports include file sizes, offload dates, camera metadata, resolution, image thumbnails, verification measures and more.

A sample report that shows all files that were transferred and other information.

OWC says Copy That for Mac supports metadata and can generate thumbnails ‘for most cinema cameras including ARRI RAW, BlackMagic RAW, RED RAW, ProRes, Panasonic Varicam, Atomos and Convergent Design recorders and most consumer cameras recording in MP4, MOV or MXF wrappers.’

Other features include presets for easily replicating certain processes, a jobs archive for looking back at past transfers, collision protection for preventing files with the same name from being overwritten, error detection and automatic safe ejection.

Checksum verification workflow.

OWC’s Copy That for Mac is available now with two licensing options. An annual license that costs $99 for the first year and $49 for each subsequent year or a project-based 30-day license for $35. There’s also a full-featured 14-day trial version if you want to take it for a spin (no card or email required).
